You are allowed to buy out future years of a contract, and pay the penalties upfront. This can only be done in the offseason, before the upcoming season's auction. So if you drop a player before the 2024 auction, who has a contract beyond '24, you can pay all of the penalties out of your upcoming year's budget. These drops have to be posted on proboards in the "2024 Contract Buyouts" section.
